Celebrating Lunar New Year Through Community Climate Engagement in Chatswood

We were delighted to co-organise a Lunar New Year community stall in Chatswood with the Multicultural Leadership Initiative, in one of Sydney’s largest and most vibrant migrant communities.

From around 10am, our volunteers hosted conversations throughout the day while sharing free dumplings and spring rolls to celebrate Lunar New Year with the community. The stall created a warm and welcoming space for people to stop, connect and engage. Beyond the festive atmosphere, what stood out most was the depth of interest and participation. People paused to ask questions, completed short surveys, shared personal stories, and left their contact details to stay involved in future activities.

These moments matter. Climate action is not only shaped in policy rooms or formal institutions. It is also built in families, neighbourhoods and everyday conversations across generations. Community events like this help make climate engagement more accessible, relational and grounded in people’s lived realities. They create opportunities to listen, build trust and strengthen the foundations of long-term participation.

The Chatswood stall was a reminder that multicultural communities are not just audiences for climate communication. They are active participants in shaping solutions, sharing knowledge and building collective momentum for change.

A huge thank you to the leadership and team at the Multicultural Leadership Initiative, and to everyone who volunteered and supported the stall. We are grateful for your time, warmth and commitment to building stronger multicultural climate leadership.
